This is an organized way of using evidence to learn about and explain events in the natural world.
What is science?
A series of steps used by scientists to investigate a problem or answer to a testable question.
What is the scientific method (process)?
Factors in an experiment that must remain the SAME.
What are constants?
Any information collected during an experiment.
What is data?
Observable events that occur in nature; these events make us wonder and inspire curiosity!
What are phenomena?
A visual representation of an idea or process of something you wish to study that’s too small, too big, or too expensive to observe in real life.
What is a model?
This skinny tube with a bulb is used to measure and move small amounts of liquid.
What is a pipette?
Factors in an experiment that can be CHANGED.
What are variables?
Writing down the data collected during an experiment.
What is recording data?
Information gathered using your five senses: smell, touch, taste, hearing and sight.
What is an observation?
This is used for holding liquids.
What is a beaker?
This type of question can only be answered by designing and conducting an experiment.
What is a testable question?
When designing/conducting an experiment, these two things must be written down so the experiment can be repeated.
What are the materials used and the procedure?
This is used to measure the volume of liquids.
What is a graduated cylinder?
A conclusion you make about an observation using things you already know.
What is an inference?
This tool measures the weight of an object.
What is a scale?
a thin glass tube used to hold small amounts of liquid.
What is a test tube?
In this type of experiment, only ONE factor is changed at a time.
What is a controlled experiment?
This type of information describes qualities or characteristics (words).
What is qualitative data?
This tool is used to measure mass.
What is a balance?
These are worn to protect your eyes from chemicals and other materials during science experiments.
What are goggles?
A possible answer or explanation to a scientific question.
What is a hypothesis?
In an experiment, this is the variable that is changed by the scientist to test a hypothesis.
What is independent variable?
Placing data into tables, charts, drawings, models or diagrams to make sharing results easier to understand.
What is organizing data?
Figuring out the MEANING of data that was collected and organized during an experiment.
What is analyzing data?
With its wide base and narrow neck, this is perfect for mixing.
What is an Erlenmeyer flask?
This is designed and conducted to find out if the hypothesis is proven or disproven.
What is an experiment?
This variable is the change that is observed during an experiment; this change provides the data we collect during an experiment.
What is a dependent variable?
This type of information is measurable (numbers) and is found using tools such as measuring sticks, balances, graduated cylinders, beakers, and thermometers.
What is quantitative data?
This is a written summary explaining whether a hypothesis was proven or disproven.
What is a conclusion?
