The variable that is changed for testing its effect on what is being measured.

What is the independent variable.

100

The framework for writing a hypothesis

What is an "If, then, because" statement

100
This is a visual illustration of data. Usually used to easily compare the results of an experiment.
What is a graph

When writing a C.E.R conclusion, C stands for claim, which is in other words, ___________________

What is "answering the question"

The fire causing the smoke all over town

What is The Bear Gulch Fire

200
The variable that is measured in an experiment
What is the dependent variable
200
The definition of hypothesis
What is a prediction
200

The variable on the Y-axis of a graph

What is the dependent variable

200

The E in CER stands for Evidence. How do you achieve two points for evidence when writing a conclusion?

What is :
- State the averages

- Do a number comparison with the averages

200

The name of the river that drains out of Lake Crescent

What is the Lyre River

300

These variables are not allowed to change because they could affect the results of the experiment.

What are control variables

300

If plants receive more sunlight, then they will grow taller. The independent variable is ______________________

What is the amount of sunlight

300

The most common size of worms found

(show graph)

What is 6.5-7 cm.

300

Grade this conclusion and explain:

"Heads held more water than tails. Heads held an average of 20 drops, which is twice the amount of drops that tails held, at just 10 drops."

3/4, missing the Reasoning (why tails held less than heads)

400

This is used as a "compare group" in order to determine if the experiment caused a change or if the results would have occurred on their own.

What is a control group

400
If students chew gum during a test, they will have higher scores. The dependent variable is _______________________
What is test scores
400

The independent variable in this experiment
(show graph)

What is amounts of sunlight for each plant

400

Grade this conclusion and explain:

"Tails holds an average of 35 drops, while heads holds an average of 32 drops. Heads held three drops less than water. This is likely because the tails side, being an old penny, contains the old Lincoln Memorial building, which has many grooves in it, allowing water to have more surface area to adhere to"

3/4, never stated a Claim.

"Leah, Wren, and Regina decide to test what factors influence water absorption by chicken eggs. They create three different water solutions: 100% distilled water, 50/50% corn syrup/distilled water, and 100% corn syrup. They measure the mass of each egg before and after soaking for 24 hrs, and calculate the change in mass.

What are the independent, dependent, and control variables?

What is:
Dependent = change in mass

Independent = Solution egg is placed in

Control = Type of egg, soaking time

Write a hypothesis for this question:

What is the effect of setting a timer on students in the quality of their answer?

What is:

"If you set a timer for a students then the quality of their answer will decrease, because of added psychological pressure."
or
"If you set a timer for a students then the quality of their answer will increase, because of decreased procrastination time."

Write a 4-point conclusion for this experiment that seeks to answer the following question:
What is the least effective way of cleaning your hands?

(show image)

What is:

The least effective way of cleaning your hands is by using hand sanitizer. Hand sanitizer had an average of 28 types of bacteria, roughly 2.3 times the amount of bacteria from a Soap A cleanse, which had 12 types. Soap B had a similar number from Soap A at 13 types. Sanitizer performed worse than the control group (warm water) at 24 types. This is likely due to the over use of hand-sanitizer creating antimicrobial-resistant bacteria on your hands.
