What is the part of the scientific method do you use to write the hypothesis?
The Problem
100
The factor that is missing the variable, but is the same in every other way.
Control
100
The tool and unit used to measure volume
graduated cylinder & mL (milliliter)
100
Name and define two different observations we make in science.
Quantitative observations: Observations that are numerical-measured, timed, counted, etc. Qualitative observations: Observations made using our 5 senses.

In an experiment why is it important to test only one variable at a time?
If you have more than one variable, how do you know which variable had an effect on the experiment. If you have one variable, and everything else is a constant, then you will know for sure that that variable had an effect in the experiment because everything else was the same.
200
What are three things that should be included in all conclusion statements?
1. Briefly write about your findings and outcomes/results. 2. If the hypothesis is supported or not supported 3. Included data that summarizes and supports your outcome of your outcome.
200
Written observations made while experimenting
Data
200
The tool and unit used to measure mass
triple beam balance & g (gram)
200
What does it mean to draw a conclusion
Scientists decide whether their data supports or does not support their hypothesis or prediction; they look for possible errors, summarize their findings.
200
What is the purpose of the control set up in an experiment and why is it important to have a control set up in an experiment?
The control group is here to eliminate all the possible variables except the one being tested. They are used to compare the results from the experimental group to the Control Group.

Explain how the format a hypothesis is written in. Include where the independent variable, dependent variable are represented in this statement.
Format: If, then, because If=independent variable then-dependent variable because=the reason why
300
The part of the experiment that consists of trials where you test the independent variable
Experimental Set-up
300
The tool and smallest unit used to measure length
ruler and mm (millimeter)
300
Name the six steps of the scientific method.
1. Question/Problem 2. research the problem 3. Write the hypothesis 4. Design and preform an experiment 5. Make observations and collect data 6. Draw a conclusion
300
What is the purpose of the experimental set up and why is it important to have an experimental set up for an experiment?
A control setup does not have the experimental variable. It is designed to show us whether or not the experimental variable has any effect at all OR has a deleterious (negative) effect. Experimental Variable—the one you are studying. We change the experimental variable to see if it causes an effect. A good experiment has only one experimental variable. If you change more than one variable you won’t know what caused the effect
400
How do you collect data?
Write down all qualitative and quantitative data/observations.
400
The part of the experiment because of the independent variable.
dependent variable
400
The tools used to measure liquids
graduated cylinder and beaker
400
What is the difference of the independent and the dependent variable?
The independent variable is the variable being tested or changed by the experimenter. The dependent variable is the variable that is being measured or observed and responds because of the changes in the independent variable.
400
What is the difference between and observation and an opinion?
An opinion is what some people think and some people don't agree with what they think and an observation is what you see, hear, taste. A observation can be senses.
500
An educated guess based on your past knowledge and research of the problem.
hypothesis
500
What is the main reason for clearly recording the procedures for an experiment?
So the experiment can be repeated
500
protection worn for eyes
safety goggles
500
What is the difference between a theory and a hypothesis?
A hypothesis is a possible answer for a question, that is proven through scientific testing. A theory is a generally accepted answer for a question that has not been scientifically proven.
500
What is the step in the scientific method that occurs after stating the problem in the form of a question? What is the purpose of the "problem" statement?
Research the problem. The Problem in the Scientific Method: States what is your goal or what idea are you trying to test? What is the scientific question that you are trying to answer?
