What is position?
The location of an object
What does predict mean?
To predict means to tell what will happen in the future.
What is force?
A force is a push or a pull.
In your own words, explain what balanced forces are.
Balanced forces are equal forces working in opposite directions.
What happens when two objects are attracted to each other?
The objects will pull on each other.
How do we know when something is in motion?
Any time an object's position changes.
What are some patterns of motion you observe in your daily life?
Examples: Swings going back and forth; seesaw going up and down; ball rolling when you push it.
How do noncontact forces differ from contact forces?
Noncontact forces cause a push or pull without touching an object, while contact forces act between objects that are touching.
What happens when forces become unbalanced?
If forces become unbalanced, a change in motion occurs.
If a particle has 6 negative charges and 8 positive charges. What is the overall charge of this particle?
Positive charge
What is the difference between position and direction?
Position is the place where an object is, while directions is the way the object faces.
Look at the picture. Choose the correct words to complete the sentence.
After the girl gits the golf ball, the ball will most likely go (into, around, over) the water.
over
How does the amount of force you exert on an object affect its motion?
The greater the force you exert, the greater its change in motion.
Look at the picture of the two spring scales measuring force.
The scale with the rock shows a __________ net force than the scale with the apple.
What would happen to the force between charged particles if they were neutral?
No attraction, no repulsion. Nothing will happen.
How can you measure the motion of an object?
Measure its speed. Speed is how far something goes in an amount of time.
Look at the diagram of dance steps. The dance is made up of six steps that start over after step 6. L stands for left foot. R stand for right foot.
Step number 7 is the same step as number (4/3/2/1). Step number 8 is the same as step number (2/3/4/1).

How are the forces of friction and gravity alike? How are they different?
Alike- Both change the movement of objects.
Different- Friction is a contact force. Gravity is not a contact force.
A box is resting on a table. Gravity pulls the box downward with a force of 25N. With how much force is the table pushing upward on the box?
25N
If you wanted to move a metal ball up a ramp without touching it, which noncontact force could you use? How could you use it?
Magnetism. Use a magnet to exert a pull on the metal ball, moving it up a ramp without touching it.
Ball A travels 15 meters in 3 seconds. Ball B travels 32 meters in 8 seconds. Which ball had a greater speed?
Ball A had more speed. Ball A traveled 5 meters every second. Ball B traveled 4 meters every second.
How can we predict the motion of the pinball ball when we hit it with the flippers?
Identify the forces that are acting on a boy who is being pulled by a dog on a leash.
The tension force from the leash pulls on the boy. Gravity holds the boy on the ground.
Luis is pushing a box with +30N. Juan Diego and Miguel are pushing the same box with -15N each. Are the forces balanced? Which direction will the box move?
What is the scientific method?
A step by step process that attempts to solve a problem.
