Suzie wanted to make some new friends at school. She had started hanging out with Sally and Sandy, but she noticed that they liked to talk negatively about most of the rest of her classmates. To fit in with them, she started to make fun of some of her classmates too. Sally and Sandy laughed at her comments, but Suzie felt badly about what she had said. The next day, Suzie told Sally and Sandy that she wasn't okay with putting down others and would not hang-out with them if they continued to speak like that.
Does Suzie have positive self-esteem or low self-esteem?
Positive Self-esteem - At first it might seem like she has low self-esteem, because she joins in with the put-downs, but Suzie realizes that staying true to her values is more important and makes a difficult decision to stop hanging out with them. It takes positive self-esteem to stand up for what is important to you.
