What is an organism?
An organism is a living thing.
What is camouflage?
Camouflage is an adaptation that an animal uses to hide in its surroundings.
What causes a tsunami?
They usually happen after an underwater earthquake.
What can be polluted?
Air, soil, and water can all be polluted.
What are predator and prey?
Predators hunt other animals for food, prey are hunted and eaten by other animals.
What three things do plants need?
Plants need sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide.
What is an endangered species?
It is a species that is in danger of becoming extinct.
What is elevation?
Elevation is the land's height above sea level
What is the difference between a renewable and nonrenewable resource?
Renewable resources can be used again and again, whereas nonrenewable resources can run out
What is a volcano?
It is an opening in the Earth's crust through which melted rock (magma) may flow
What is pollination?
The transfer of pollen from one flower to another.
What are the three cycles we have read about?
Water cycle, carbon cycle, and nitrogen cycle.
What are the two types of weathering?
Physical weathering and chemical weathering.
How can we conserve water? (Give three examples)
Take shorter showers, do not leave water running, wash dishes by hand, fix leaking pipes and faucets, grow plants that don't require a lot of water, etc.
What does extinct mean? What is an example of an extinct animal?
Extinct means all of that thing are dead, dodo birds, mammoths, dinosaurs are all extinct.
What are the two types of reproduction?
Sexual and asexual reproduction.
What are the six major biomes?
Earth has six major biomes: desert, tundra, taiga, rainforest, deciduous forest, and grassland.
What are the Earth's layers?
Inner core, outer core, lower mantle, upper mantle, crust. (hydrosphere and atmosphere are extra)
What is soil?
Soil is a mixture of the bits of broken-down rock and parts of dead plants and animals.
What causes pollution? (Give four examples)
Chemicals, garbage, aerosol cans, and particles from construction sites and mines.
What are the five classes of animals?
Mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and birds.
What is the difference between behavioral and structural adaptations?
Behavioral adaptations are changes in the way an organism acts. Structural adaptations are changes in body parts.
What are three features on the ocean floor?
Continental shelf, continental slope, continental rise, abyssal plain, seamount, mid-ocean ridges and rift valley.
What are the four properties of a mineral?
Color, streak, luster, and hardness
What are igneous rocks and sedimentary rocks?
Igneous rocks are made from melted rock that cooled and hardened, sedimentary rocks are made from sediments that are pressed and cemented together.
