The purpose is to connect HOW evidence supports your claim.
Without your reasons and explanation of how C&E are connected, the audience does not know the importance the evidence has! You MUST provide reasoning for the evidence to support your opinion/claim.
Without showing your reasoning and understanding of this connection, the evidence you provide is worthless; and destroys your argument as a claim without evidence is also worthless.
