Germs are tiny organisms that can't be seen with our eyes alone. Some germs are important to our bodies - they help us grow and stay healthy. Some germs can cause disease and make us very sick.

The three most common types of germs are: bacteria, viruses, and fungi.

These include cakes, pastries, chocolate, candies, cookies, doughnuts, ice cream, french fries, potato chips, etc. Many of these foods have lots of sugar, fat or salt and therefore we should not eat them often.

The most healthy option for us to drink is water and you should drink 8 cups a day to stay hydrated. 

Some examples of drinks that are unhealthy for our bodies include: pop, energy drinks, ice caps, and could include things like coffee. Many of these drink are high in sugar.

Explain what a kiwifruit looks and tastes like based on our classroom taste test.

Kiwifruit is a delicious berry about the size of a chicken egg.  It has a hairy brownish skin with green flesh and small black seeds inside. The fruit has a slightly sweet and sour taste.  Kiwifruit is a very healthy fruit to eat because it provides many vitamins and minerals especially vitamin C.

We should eat 7 servings of vegetables and fruits each day. One serving of vegetables and fruit is about one handful. For leafy vegetables such as lettuce and spinach, one serving is two handfuls.

We need to eat foods from all four food groups every day because each food group helps us stay healthy in a different way.  For example, vegetables and fruits help our skin, eyes and hair grow healthy. Bread, cereal, pasta and rice give our bodies lots of energy. Milk, cheese, and yogurt help us build strong bones and teeth. Meat, beans, eggs, and nuts help build and repair our muscles.

What are some of the health benefits of eating vegetables and fruit regularly?

Vegetables and fruit are loaded with vitamins, minerals, and fibre. The nutrients in vegetables and fruits help us see in the dark and keep our skin healthy. Fibre helps us go to the bathroom regularly.

For adults, we should eat at least six servings of grain products each day. A serving size is the size of a tennis ball.
