There are four major events that can cause a tsunami. Most often, tsunamis are caused by earthquakes below or near the ocean. The most destructive tsunamis occur when there is a shallow focus earthquake where the ocean is less than 70 km. deep. Other less-common events that can cause tsunamis include underwater landslides and violent volcanic eruptions.

First, wash your hands and gather all of your materials. Once you've done that, follow all of the directions in your cookbook. Put the crispy treats in the oven and cook for 30-35 minutes. When you take the treats out of the oven , pour the honey and lemon sauce on immediately. Once treats are cooled, you and your friends can enjoy.

At first glance, wildfires and prescribed fires look the same. Both fires product hot flames and smoke that can be seen for quite a distance. A closer look, however, reveals that these two types of fires are vastly different. While most wildfires are caused accidentally be humans, a prescribed fire is purposely started by humans only after careful planning. During a prescribed fire, weather conditions are closely monitored and the fire is under control at all times. In contrast, wildfires are not under human control, and can spread rapidly, resulting in property destruction and death.

On the first day of school, Victor stood in line for 30 minutes before he came to a wobbly card table. He was handed a packet of papers and a computer card on which he listed his one elective, French. He already spoke Spanish and English, but he thought some day he might travel to France, where it was cool; not like Fresno, where summer days reached 110 degrees in the shade.

The first metal two-wheeled machine appeared in 1865. The pedal was attached directly to the wheel, and it was made completely of wood. The first metal bicycle dates back to 1870, and was also the first pedaled machine referred to as a bicycle. It had a high front wheel. The first bicycle to have a chain was invented in 1879. This chained bike returned to the original design of having two wheels of the same size. A kid's bike was introduced after World War I, and it featured automobile elements. By the 1970s, bicycles were becoming lighter and simpler. The ten-speed bike was popular in the 1970s. Today, bikes of all shapes and sizes are ridden every day.

And we scrounged. Next to survival, scrounge was probably the most important word in our new vocabulary. We found a store that was throwing out water-damaged mattresses. Getting them home was a problem, since we had to make two trips, leaving Brad and Katie, armed with sticks to guard over the remains. I truly expected them to be challenged by some gang boss, but they said that the only person who came by was a scrawny little rat of a girl living alone. We let her have one of the mattresses.

Glaciers are large, thick masses of snow and ice. Unlike a normal sheet of ice, however, glaciers are able to move. They move very slowly over time, flowing like a slow river. Glaciers are often considered remnants from the last Ice Age. Glaciers can be found all over the world. They currently cover about 10% of the Earth's surface. They are mainly located in the polar areas of Antarctica and Greenland. Some glacial ice can be found in mountainous areas, as well.

A tornado watch is different than a tornado warning. A tornado watch means that a tornado could develop given the current weather conditions, so people should be alert and make choices on outdoor activities with that in mind. A tornado warning, on the other hand, means that an actual tornado has been spotted or picked up on radar, so people should take cover immediately in a safe and sturdy place.

Our environment has weakened due to the invention of the automobile. Vehicles emit toxic gases into the air we breathe. One solution to this alarming problem is to ride a bike whenever possible. A four mile bicycle trip will result in 15 fewer pounds of pollutants in our air. Riding a bike also reduces water pollution since bikes don't use antifreeze, brake fluid, or transmission fluid. Riding a bike is an environmentally friendly thing to do!
