Side effects/ nursing considerations
Side effects of this drug include conjunctival irritation, burning/stinging, and eye pigment changes
latanoprost
Reduced visual acuity, conjunctival irritation, erythema, and discomfort are possible side effects.
pilocarpine
Prostoglandin antagonist used to treat open-angle glaucoma
latanoprost
Along with eye problems (conj. irritation, sensitivity to bright light, blurred vision), this drug may also cause dry mouth, urine retention, and constipation)
cyclopentolate hydrochloride
Get approval for use of this drug if the patient has increase IOP or hypertension
cyclopentolate hydrochloride
Anticholinergic agent used for examining internal structures of the eye by dilating the pupil
cyclopentolate hydrochloride
withhold this drug if symptoms of allergic reaction occurs. Temporary blurred vision, eye discomfort, itching, redness and tearing and light sensitivity are common side effects. Watch out for superinfection
ofloxaCIN
Assess for brdycardia, hypotension, respiratory issues when using this beta-blocker
timolol maleate
USed for superficial eye infection and is administered to newborns as a prophylaxis against gonorrheal infection
ofloxacin
Gastric irritation, as well as side effects common to other diuretics (electrolyte imbalance and dehydration) are possible side effects
Acetazolamide
(do not give if allergic to sulfonamide antibiotics w/o provider approval)
Aside from Conjunctival irritation, this drug may also cause hypotension or bradycardia
timolol maleate
Beta blocker used to treat chronic open-angle glaucoma by reducing production of aqueous humor
timolol acetate
