How would you answer
" They got me WFH before, why can't you? "
* Job market is constantly evolving
*Redirect Question: "What happened with your last WFH Position?" "Why do you want WFH?"
*Typically the WFH opportunites we see are entry level.
Mirror sourcing
*We will both search for job opportunites together on the phone. We will also be applying to these positions on the phone together.
*Does required attention and active participation
*Will need to be on computer during this call
Your grad does not show to scheduled mirror sourcing calls
*Were professional communication expectations discussed in previous call?
*BDA can not assist with sourcing until we receive an idea of what you are looking for
You need your grad to send you the applications when they compete them
*Establish deadline for graduate to return completed application back to you
*Create accountability between you and grad
*Your success is dependent on the work you are committed to do in our partnership. (Re-evaluate motivation and goal with grad)
How to say: the importance of sending in your applications"
*Make sure to send all applications you've completed, our BDA's have relationships with employers all over. This may already be an established relationship that we have which can benefit you
" I want work from home. I have kids"
*What does your current childcare arrangement look like?
*Even if you have children, you will still need a quiet work space to operate from
* Why? What does WFH look like to you?
The CSA position
* I am here to help develop and ehance your professional skill set so we can begin to apply to more positions outside of entry level
*I can assist with resume updates, job opportunites, how to properly job hunt, define your career path
Your grad always seems distracted and uninterested on your scheduled calls
*Seems like you are a little busy at the moment. Discuss better times to speak with grad.
*Are you really commited to this process?
*When you are ready to committ to the process, we are here to assist.
Your Grad doesnt see the importance of ITV prep
*Find out more about their last time interviewing. What worked? What didn't?
*Practice makes perfect
*Job Specific
Grad does not take responsibility for own actions (blames employer, UMA and advisor)
*We can only control what we do. What is something we can do better in this moment? How can we use this moving forward?
*Reflect and asking probing questions. Get a better idea of what happened
*What could we have done differently?
" Can't you send me the equipment? They did before!"
* 1st job we found you a job was to help your career get started. Alumni services is focused on you helping yourself.
*What equipment do you have?
*Redirect: "We can look into our resources for you (no guarantee), what is your plan B,C,D?"
Interview Preparation
*Refreshing and updating their interview skills and etiquette
*Role-playing thorugh common interview questions
*Gain confidence in own personal interview skills
*Overcoming any possible interview challenges
Grad only calls when needs something from you ASAP
*Establishing parameters around Grad and Advisor relationship
*Schedule a call back time for later when both parties are available
*What personal resources do you currently have?
Grad will only respond to text. Grad will not pick up the phone.
*Having a phone conversation is imperative to your job searching process.
*Find the best time to speak that grad can committ too
*We can only complete so much through text, and things can get lost in translation. We can use this time to speak on the phone and complete more tasks
Grad can't pass BG/DT
*BG: There are second chance employers that may be better opportunites for us to apply too
*BG: Expungement resources in local area. What have you learned from these experiences? What have you changed since then?
*DT: Until you are able to pass a DT, we may need to reassess our priorities
*DT: There are opportunites that don't DT but if you are serious about working in the medical field, you will need to reconsider these activities.
" I want WFH, but I only want part time"
*The more parameters you add, the smaller chance to finding the exact opportunity you want (Pros vs Cons)
*Why do you need a PT position?
* PT may be difficult to find, have you considered PRN
Hiring Process
*Once you are hired, these are things I can assist with...
*Core: After your first day of work, I will reach out to you to confirm how it went.....
*Most Wanted: Several times after your first couple of weeks, we will be checking in to make sure that you are satisfied with your current role... This will continue periodically throughout.....
Your grad goes ghost/disengages
*Attempt outreach 3x, if disengagement persists, set expectation that you will be reshifting your focus to assist other graduates
* Some grads will not be committed to the process, let grad return when they are ready
Grad wants a job but has no sense of urgency on their end
*Re-evulate goals and motivations
*Dont be afraid to let grad go. They can reach out when they are more committed to their job search
"This position pays too low, I want something that pays more. I have my degree..."
*Have you looked at positions in your area are paying for?
*It's not about the money, its about the experience and getting the process started
"I'm currently WFH and I don't like it. Can you help me find another one"
(Issues with equipment, can't get in touch with trainers, new management isn't helpful)
*How long have you worked at this current WFH position (Takes at least 90 days to become comfortable in this role)
*How large is your class size, sometimes trainers can be overwhelmed with large class times. Sometimes we have to be patient.
*What is the true objection: Do you not like this WFH or WFH in general?
The BDA Process
*Partners with you to find open opportunites
*Uses your application to contact employers
*Scheduled interviews based on your set and confirmed interview availbility
*Describe the job opportunity grad is looking for to assist with BDA sourcing
Grad stops answering after going to the interview
*Ensure appropriate expectations are set at the beginning of the relationship so they are aware of continued outreach from you
*Life happens to everyone, be open minded and give grad some space to resume
*Never Assume
Grad is complaining about last CSA and " Job not being what she wanted" - What do you say?
*Although it may not be what you wanted, you gained experience from it
*Redirect: What were your pros and cons about this job? Let's use this to define what you are looking for
* Use this to reiterate other responsibilties (reconfirm times to speak over the phone for mirror sourcing, explaining the importance of answering the phone for UMA, BDA sourcing, etc.)
Grad has unrealistic job expectations and is only looking for jobs they are not fully qualified for
*Go to indeed and look at qualifications for job
*Match qualifications to skills on grads resume
