First Nations split into groups, a group for the native women, a group for the men who were playing bag'gat'iway (lacrosse) and one who were going to start the attack. A man came out of the fort to go see the game but the the group who was going to start the attack, attacked the man, then let out a war cry to start the attack on fort Michilimackinac. The men who were playing bag'gat'iway (lacrosse) heard the cry and got weapons from the native women and attack the soldiers that were outside the fort. Not long after the First Nations killed almost all of the soldiers.
