At Sheetz, keeping our employees safe is of the utmost importance. We believe that one of the ways that we can enhance employee safety is by ensuring employees understand their responsibility in not escalating certain already stressful situtations, such as shoplifting, customer complaints/disputes, etc.
For their own safetyamd tje safety of other employees, as well as customers, employees should never confront or restrain a suspected shoplifter or thief. Employees are encouraged to use our SEE Standards including greeting and asking customers if they need any help or assistance.
In situations involving customer complaints/disputes, especially those in which the customer becomes unruly or upset, the employees should do everything possible to de-escalate the situation. This could include giving an item for free or utilizing the Make It Right Program
Additionally, it is acceptable for an employee to remove themselves from the situation by walking away. In cases where an employee does not feel comfortable addressing the situation on their own, they should alert management and ask for assistance.
Upon review, if an employee has been found to have violated this policy, thereby putting themselves, other employees and/or customers in danger, they could be subject to progressive discipline up to and including termination.
