Contains an introduction, characters, setting, and an introduction to the conflict
What is the exposition?
Person, animal or sometimes object in a short story

When writers show, rather than tell, readers what a character is like in five ways

Solves the conflict or the final outcome

Shorter than a novel, focuses on a small amount of characters, and mood.

A character that the readers knows a lot about.
What is a round character?
Leading or main character
What is the protagonist?
This theme is direct and presented in an obvious way

The narrator only knows the thoughts of one character
What is 3rd person limited?
Opposes the protagonist
What is the antagonist?
This type of theme needs inferential work
What is implied theme?
The narrator knows the thoughts of more than one character
What is 3rd person omniscient?
This occurs after the climax of the story and before the resolution
