Yes. In the 1700 there was a guy called Charles Michel de l’Epee who liked helping the less fortunate. One day he was walking down the streets and had an encounter with two young deaf sisters that were signing some sort of sign language to each other. He wanted to help so he invented a one-handed Manual Alphabet and developed his own unique sign system. So then he started a School for Deaf kids
