I am a nuisance, due to histamine release, especially at night. I get worse with vasodilation, strong soaps, and hot water. Sometimes, a bath with mild soap and tepid water followed by application of bland emollient calm me down. If not, antihistamine medications may have to be used.

I can be caused by an allergic or non-allergic reaction to an irritant such as frequent hand-washing, cleaners, or foods. I start out causing erythema, pruritus, and weeping vescicles followed by dry crusting and peeling of the skin. I am treated with avoidance of the irritant, barrier creams, and topical corticosteroid creams.
