Cardinals gather at the Sistine Chapel in Vatican and votes for a cardinal anonymously. Once a two-thirds majority is reached, a special mixture burns white smoke to indicate that a new pope has been chosen. Black smoke means that the vote has failed. Voting continues until a new pope has been chosen.
