PL --> reports to Assistant Director, Programming
Counselors --> report to PL
True or False: The Assistant Director, Programming should be an expert on curriculum for the different programs?
False! This individual needs to be strong in behavior management, child development, and instructional strategies/coaching. They will NOT know precisely what is happening on a day-to-day basis in all programs but should have a general awareness of schedules, and events that impact other groups or structures in the day (EX: STEMposium, Innovators field trips, if it's expected to rain and all multi-sport groups need to be inside)

What is an example AND a non-example of loss of privilege?
Losing the right to a choice or material

- Non-example: Camper does not get a snack (never acceptable), EXCEPT IN EXTREME ESCALATED SCENARIOS WHERE THEY ARE REMOVED FROM THE ROOM - Camper does not get to make the art project, camper does not get to swim, etc.
Your Program Leader comes to you because you're missing 40 orange triangles for a Day Camp project that is taking place that morning. What do you do!?

- Pre-decide on roles during instructional blocks - divide and conquer!
- Complete morning prep - PLs will help delegate and prioritize prep
Scenario: There is a STEM II camper who is on her third strike. The first was because she got angry with another camper won a game and shoved that camper. The second is when she yelled at and spit on a camper who 'cut' her in line. The third is when she wandered away from the group during an outdoor activity. (She was still on-campus, but at the other end of a sports field.) This camper has continued to talk over counselors and refuses to follow directions related to clean up. She is enrolled for four more weeks of camp. When the A.D. Programming and CX met with parents, they said she never acts like this at home/school and it's out of the ordinary. The AD, Programming is inclined to give her her fourth strike, which would be a removal from camp. What would you do?!
No correct response - discuss and give rationale
- Need to speak with Asst. Director about options and implications
- Need to speak with HQ about options and implications
Your STEM Program Leader comes to you because the curriculum says you need one LEGO Boost Robot per 2 campers. The group last week was expected to have 14 campers so we sent 7 robot kits. Over the weekend, 5 more campers got added or switched into STEM III and now there are 19 campers. If we cannot order 3 more robots in time, what do you do?
Discuss
- related to story about protective eye-wear and also discuss who gets last minute orders
What Would You Do Scenario: The Day Camp Program Leader was in the Hedgehog's group when a camper cut a significant chunk of another camper's hair with scissors. Since the Program Leader was a witness of the incident firsthand, she offers to be on the call with the Assistant Director, Programming and CX. Would you allow the PL to be on the phone call to both campers' families? Why or why not?
Discuss!
What Would You Do Scenario?: The Assistant Director: Programming has reported to you as the Site Director that he's feeling frustrated with the Multi-Sport Program Leader. The AD, Programming reports that despite conversations with the Program Leader, the PL is unenthusiastic during programmatic Morning Meetings, unprepared for activities, and disengaged throughout the day. He often finds the PL 'on Slack' away from campers, and is annoyed when the AD encourages him to check on groups together. What would you do?

What Would You Do Scenario?: The STEM Program Leader has come down with strep throat on a Monday morning and called out sick at 6:30 AM. You know you have STEM I (Unbeelievable Bees and Beautiful Butterflies), STEM II (Robotics with Dash, Dot and Sphero), and STEM III (Invention Convention with littleBits) running. What is your plan of action (including the roles of others) to ensure these programs run efficiently on the first day of the week.
