What is telling your students they need to take at least one thing home a day and learn. I find that this has been effective in my class because the students go out of their way to make sure they learned at least one thing. To students learning one thing is easier then learning a lesson, but by them learning that one thing they end up remembering the lesson.

What is the revolving door?
Establish on the first day how passes will work with your class, whether you do not allow students to leave or if you let them leave during independent work. Let them know quickly and consistently.
400
Strict to easy
What is starting out the year very strict and slowly getting easier going with your students. It is harder to start out easy then try to wrangle the students back in.
