During reading time on the rug, you have a really funny joke you want to tell a friend. Your body feels like it has to say it right now! But the teacher is reading, and other kids are listening.
Have self control! Hold your thought until another time that might be appropriate, like recess.
It is time to start centers, but can't decide what to do, you can't find your pencil, then you walk to the bookshelf, then play with your shoelace.
Ask a teacher for a pencil, then start your center work.
You are reading a new book and get stuck on a really long word. You feel like closing the book and saying "I can't read!" You remember your teacher giving you a trick to this though.
Keep trying and do my best!

You are supposed to be doing your math tub, but your table friend keeps talking to you about a birthday party. It's fun to listen, but your math tub isn't getting done.
Stay focused, ask the friend to wait til later to tell you, get your math tub completed.
You are drawing a picture, but your mom looks like a blob and you thinks it looks "bad." You want to crumple it up and quit. A friend reminds you that artists keep trying and to add details a little at a time.
Have a growth mindset and fix it instead of crumpling it up.
At lunch, you notice a friend's lunch looks different from yours. It is food you've never seen before. You almost say, "Ew, what is that?"
Do not say anything that would hurt someone's heart. Ask about their food and what it is.

During independent writing time, you look out the window and sees other students at recess. It's SO fun to watch! Meanwhile, your handwriting page is still almost empty, and the class is almost done. How do you get on task?
Stay focused and start working.
You want to count all the way to 100, but you keep stopping at 47 and getting stuck. You don't know what to do, but you are feeling frustrated.
I should keep trying. You can try it to set a goal and practice some each day.
During math time, a friend is presenting her work with strategies, but some kids start whispering to you and playing with their shoelaces while she's talking. The friend's face starts to look sad.
You should ignore the friends trying to whisper to you and listen to the friend presenting.
