Brows slant downward in the middle, mouth may be pinched or yelling, can get teary-eyed when angry, hot in temperature, red in the face, loud in volume, clinched muscles, balled up fists, physically or verbally aggressive, impulsive, etc.

If you want to gain someone's attention, what should you do?

Say their name and wait until you've gained the person's attention before speaking. Wait until the person is finished speaking to someone else or has finished with their current task before trying to gain their attention. Make brief eye contact. Raise your hand and wait to be called on.

Go slow and be aware of what's happening around you.

False. You need to make sure the clear table shield is between you and the person sitting next to you if you are eating and talking. You may have to lean into the table to make this possible.

Why is it not okay to use your hands and feet on others when you're upset?

Someone could get hurt, and it may change how others feel about you (temporarily or permanently).

What does it mean to change the channel on your thoughts?

When you're upset, you need to give yourself time (take a break), use a strategy (calm breathing), and think of something else to help you react in a more appropriate manner and find your calm.

They can be either. Every behavior we display has a consequence. Good behaviors often bring about positive consequences, and bad behaviors often bring about negative consequences.

Example must include: someone having a plan, their schedule changes, and then the person accepts the new plan. You need to have an inside calmness, an outside calmness, and think of one positive thing about the new plan.

You can be sent to the STARS room for a class period or the remainder of the school day. You can get ISS, a discipline referral, out of school suspension, loss of privileges, closer monitoring by the STARS team, folders to complete, etc.

Their mouth and nose.

Is it possible to have more than one emotion in a given day?

Yes. Emotions change as your day progresses.

What is color breathing?

With a calm body and closed eyes, you think of a calming color, and you picture inhaling it (blue). Then you think of a color that represents your big emotions (red), and you picture exhaling it. Repeat the process until you are calm.

When someone is working through big emotions in the classroom, what should they do to calm down?

Ask to take a break in the STARS room, try breathing exercises, ask to go to the bathroom for a change of scenery, practice relaxing all of your muscles one by one, etc.
