Yes, it is okay to like different things or have a different culture, religion, etc. Liking the same things does not have to be why you are friends with someone.

What does "two wrongs don't make a right" mean?
If someone does something disrespectful/mean/rude/etc. to you, you should not do it back to them and should be the "bigger person." Acting the same way makes the problem worse.
If your friend Olivia tells you not to talk to Sam because she doesn't like them, is she being a good friend to you?
No she is not being a good friend to you. You can talk to whoever you want and still be a good friend to Olivia.
