When I'm Mad
What should you do?
School Rules

During a class, your teacher asks a question. You shout out the answer without raising your hand. What is wrong with this?

I didn't give other kids the chance to think. I wasn't following school rules.  If I can should out, everyone else can too and then class will be really loud.

Your friend is mad at you and you don't know why. What should you do?

Use my words and ask them what is wrong.  If they won't talk to me, then I can write them a letter or draw them a picture to tell my feelings.

100

You are really mad at your friend for saying something mean. What should you do?

Stay calm and use my words to tell that friend what they said that made me feel mad and disrespected. I would ask my friend to apologize to me for making me feel upset. If the friend still isn't being nice, then walk away and find someone else to be around.

100

You don't understand what the teacher is talking about. What should you do?

I need to raise my hand and ask the teacher to help me.  I need to explain that I don't understand and that I am frustrated or lost. I need to stay calm.

You tripped and fell in the hallway. All of the other students laugh at you. How did you feel? What should you do?

I feel embarrassed and angry. I am not hurt, so I can make it into a joke and laugh with the other kids instead of being laughed at.

You are in class taking a test. You get up to go to the bathroom without asking. What is wrong with this?

I didn't follow the school rules. I could disrupt others that are focused. If I left without the teacher knowing, she could worry about where I am and I could be in danger if there is a lock down.

200

Your friend moved away to another state. How do you feel? What should you do?

I feel sad because I can't see them anymore.  I could keep in touch with them by writing a letter or calling them or ask to talk to someone about my feelings.

200

You hit your friend because he made you mad. What is wrong with this? What should you have done?

I never used my words to tell my friend what I didn't like. I didn't ask for a break or ask the teacher to help me fix the problem. I should have used my words to ask for an apology or walk away.

200

You forgot your homework at home. You tell your teacher that your dog ate it.  What is wrong with this?

I told a lie instead of the truth.  There are bigger consequences for telling a lie than if you just own the truth.

200

There is a line of students at the door. You go up to the front of the line and cut in front of everyone. What is wrong with this?

This behavior was rude and disrespectful to people already in line. I did not follow the school rules. I need to follow the rules and go to the end of the line.

300

You need to talk to your teacher, but see that she is talking to someone. What should you do?

Try to figure out the answer on my own or be patient and wait until he or she is done to ask for help.

300

Another student was talking to you and got you in trouble. How did you feel? What should you do?

I feel mad. I need to remind them to be quiet and say we can talk during recess or raise my hand quietly to let my teacher know I cannot pay attention. I would remind them of my personal boundaries.

300

A teacher asks you a question and you answer it while staring at your feet. What is wrong with this?

I need to look at people in the eyes when I am talking.  It is polite and the person can hear what I am saying.  It shows that I am confident and ready to learn.

300

A new student at school bumped into you accidentally in the hallway. Is this a little problem or big problem? What should you do?

LITTLE PROBLEM. I should say excuse me and ask them if they need help finding their way around. I could introduce myself and invite them to sit at my lunch table or play at recess.

300

An adult yelled at in front of your entire class. How did you feel? What should you do?

I feel embarrassed and mad. I need to understand that if I were doing what I was supposed to do the adult would not have yelled at me. I need to be responsible for my behavior and accept what the consequence is.

400

Your best friend has asked you to stop hanging out with a new friend you made. How did this make you feel? What should you do?

I would be upset. I would explain to my best friend that they are still my best friend and that I still want to hang out with them but I also want to hang out with the other person. I could invite my best friend to hang out with me and my new friend.

400

Another student made fun of you and called you a name.  How did you feel? What should you do?

I felt really angry. I felt like I wanted to be mean back. I want to use my words to tell them that was mean and I don't like when they call me names, walk away, find someone kind to play with, tell the teacher.

400

You weren't nice to your friend yesterday. How did you feel? What should you do?

I messed up. I should talk to my friend to apologize. If they are still mad at me, I can't get upset because I was mean first, but I can be patient and wait for them to forgive me and continue to show them kindness. I can talk to an adult for advice on how to make things better.

400

Your friend is making fun of another student. What should you do?

Even though I don't want to make my friend mad at me, I need to stand up against bullying. I need to tell my friend to stop and try and get them to do something else instead. I can tell an adult if necessary.

400

Your best friend bought you a gift for your birthday. How did you feel? What should you do?

I feel excited and happy. I should say thank you and maybe even write a thank you card. I would try to get them a gift or write a card for their birthday.

500

You studied for a test all night and didn't get any sleep. How did you feel? What should you do?

I felt frustrated and cranky because I did not get enough sleep and everyone around me is bugging me. In the future I should start preparing for the test earlier to avoid staying up all night and not getting enough sleep. If I am continuing to be cranky during the day I can ask the teacher for a break.

500

You studied really hard for a math test. You got a D on it. How did you feel? What should you do?

I felt frustrated because I worked so hard. I should ask the teacher for help to understand what I did wrong.

500

You got a D+ on your test, but your friend got an A+. How did you feel? What should you do?

I felt frustrated and jealous.  I need to congratulate them and ask them to help me figure out what I did wrong, so I can get better next time.

500

You don't want to follow the directions that your teacher gave you. What should you do?

Sometimes I need to do things that I don't want to. My teacher is telling me to do something for a reason and I must follow the rules. It is disrespectful to my teacher and other classmates to not listen.

500

Your class went on a field trip to your favorite ice cream store. How did you feel?

I feel excited for being able to get ice cream during the school day.
