Is vulnerability a good thing or a bad thing? Why?
It is only bad if you let it hold you back from trying and from taking opportunities. Vulnerability can be good. It is hard but shows strength when we are vulnerable but still try or still go after a goal.
Is discipline the same as punishment?
Is self-discipline bad or good? why?
Discipline is not the same as punishment
Self-discipline is good for you. It allows you to organize, set goals, and hold yourself accountable for your own choices. Without self-discipline, we would not succeed.
What impairs our decision-making process?
Emotions
Difference between a Growth vs. a Fixed Mindset
Growth Mindset: Individuals who believe their talents can be developed (through hard work, good strategies, and input from others)
Fixed Mindset: People believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits. "It is what it is" mindset.

What does setting healthy boundaries with our friends or peers look like?
Limit your time with them when you have things to get done or need self-care time. Requiring trust before relying on a friend. How much communication you want. You only trust to tell them a limited amount about your life. Keeping space when that peer is with other people you aren't comfortable with. Waiting to talk during lunch instead of in the halls. Don't let them still your lunch.

Give an example of how you use self control
Self-control is the ability to control your urges. Finding your strengths to help shape your behavior to be in control of your actions. Any example that encompasses this is correct.
We need to take care of our well-being if we want to tend to the relationships in our life.
Name 5 different forms of self-care you do or could do.

You see a group of friends that you want to be apart of.
What are some emotions that come to mind when you are thinking about talking to this new group?
How can you change those possible negative emotions into more of a vulnerable state of mind? What’s the worst thing that could happen?
It's scary talking to a new group. What if they don't like me?
This could turn out good. What if we make connections? I should take initiative and introduce myself. The worse outcome would be that they don't want to be friends and that's a reflection of them, not me.
Martha wants to play fortnight with her friends after school, but also has an essay due tonight that she doesn't want to do. How can she show self-discipline?
She can set a timer on how long she can play fortnight before typing her essay. She can set aside time for working on her essay before playing fortnight. She can reschedule fortnight. Etc.
Sit with your ankles crossed, one hand touching your head or shoulder, other hand touching your knee. Hold this position until the other team is done with their turn.
If one on your team breaks, you don't get the points. (Remind me when you get the points!)
Great show of self-control, let's see if you can keep it up without giving into your impulses.
What is the power of "Yet" when used for a growth mindset?
You might not be good at something Yet, but you have to be willing to put in the effort to learn it
Three elements of personality: ID, Superego, ego
You lost at monopoly, and your sister won because she cheated. You feel very angry/frustrated. What would your ID (inner child) tell you to do? What about Superego (the critic)? Ego?

ID=Yell at her for cheating, she didn't win. Throw the game out the window.
Superego=You can't show your upset because she is your sister. This is too embarrassing, I am not playing any more games today so I don't lose.
Ego=I can't play another round of monopoly with you because you were unfair and I didn't like that. Maybe I can play a different game if you could promise not to do it again?
Show some vulnerability and strength. Have your team tell everyone from the other teams a compliment or motivation statement that can make them feel good.
DON'T shout over each other or use the same statement as someone. Must get everyone on the other teams.
Thank you for being kind and helping others point out their strengths or qualities. Giving our peers compliments/motivation can lift them up and boost them for the day.
LeBron James is 6'9" and played on the LA Lakers NBA team. He has 20 years experience and has won 4 championships. He has made at least $434,986,578 playing professional basketball.
What are the kinds of self-discipline he might've used to get there?
His Early Life: Father=convicted criminal, not part of his life, didn't support family financially. James grew up in the roughest neighborhoods due to his mother Gloria having difficulties finding a job and maintaining her family. LeBron ultimately moved in with a local football coach when he was 9. From there he swapped to basketball at St Vincent-St Mary High School, a predominantly white Catholic high school.
Dedication. Not letting his past define him. Setting time aside to practice basketball even when others doubted him. When he became well known, he still practiced hard to become better instead of getting too relaxed. He found friends to play with him and to train with.
Lead this group into a self-coping/grounding exercise.
Options:
Box breathing: in 4 seconds, hold 4, out 4, hold 4 (4-5 times)
Muscle Relaxation: relax in chair, tense up muscles then release tension in your head moving to your neck then your shoulders (then arms, fingers, stomach, knees, legs, foot, toes). Or can reverse order. Move slowly through each step (pausing for 8-10 seconds between each).
5 Senses: identify 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell, and 1 thing you can taste. Go over each sense slowly one at a time.
Thank you helping us find a moment of calmness within ourselves.
Student Manfred has a hard time making friends and thinks “No one wants to be my friend, I have none.”
What mindset is this? How can Manfred change his approach?
It is fixed. Move to growth. Anything along lines of: he is trying, keep trying, haven't found the right people yet, how can i change my methods to making friends, it just takes patience and time

Name the message/meaning of the Golden Buddha OR tell the story.
Golden Buddha teaches us the value of knowing and leveraging on our strengths and gifts.
Buddha statues were covered in plaster or stucco to disguise them from invading armies. When workers were moving a statue, a rope slipped and the statue fell. It cracked. This revealed something gold inside. They removed the plaster to find a solid gold statue of Buddha.
“We are a shell on the outside…We judge each other’s shell…believe there’s gold inside of all of us.”
Name a sport, hobby, goal, or team you are a part of.
If you have been doing well, what steps did it take to get there? What did self-discipline look like for you?
If this is still new, what are your goals and plans to succeed? How can you use self-discipline?
Thank you for your insights. Your sharing is helpful to this group.

ID=Inner Child who has impulses and wants that they want to satisfy now. Superego=The critical side. Worried about morals and judgements and creates guilt when standards aren't met. Ego=Ability to balance inner child and superego. Mediates between the unrealistic id and the real external world. Decision-making component of personality. Ideally, the ego works by reason, whereas the id is chaotic and unreasonable.
