Some countries have more natural resources than others, so they have developed a strong independent economy, countries with few natural resources may be strong but they are dependent on others for what they need. They tend to specialize in a product or service to sell it for what they need.
Example: Japan has few natural resources so imports most of its coal. North Korea has an abundance natural resources, however the country has a low GDP
