Archaeologists are social scientists who study how people lived in an earlier time. They study items like artifacts from early humans that they find in digsites

The Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. These rivers flooded yearly and brought rich nutrients (silt) to the land, making agriculture successful. Irrigation (the made-made movement of water) also assisted with agriculture.

Karma is practiced in Hinduism. Karma describes how a person’s actions in one life can influence and affect the next life. There is good karma and bad karma.

Physical geography involves the study of Earth’s natural features (water, landforms, vegetation and climate). Human geography involves studying human activities as they relate to Earth.

Describe the life of an early human as a hunter and gatherer in Africa.
Early humans migrated through Africa eating fruits, nuts, plants, etc. and hunting animals. They did not stay in one place for a long period of time. The invention of stone tools and fire were really important. Early humans had to find food and water in order to survive.

Marco Polo was from Italy and in the 1200s he visited China. He brought Chinese culture back to Europe. Chinese ideas spread to the West. This increased the wealth and mixture of ideas in Chinese culture.

Describe the Ancient Egyptian religion.
Ancient Egyptians believed in polytheism (the belief in many gods). To prepare for the afterlife, pharaohs ordered people to build detailed tombs. They filled the tombs with fine objects. After death, a pharaoh’s body was carefully mummified, or preserved, by priests. Then it was placed in its tomb.

What is a monsoon and how did it affect the lifestyle in Ancient India?
A monsoon is a strong wind that brings heavy rain to South Asia in the summer and droughts in the winter. The monsoon winds are caused by the mountains and the water surrounding India. Monsoon winds create a wet and a dry season and make agriculture possible here. Winter: Very little rain and summer: Warm, moist air from the Indian Ocean = rain daily. Farmers planted in the summer months, when water was available. They harvested in the fall.

Who were the Mongols and who was their ruler?
Genghis Khan ruled the Mongol Empire. The Mongols used quick attacks and terrifying tactics (destroying the food supply, making secret alliances with rebel forces, launching unexpected attacks, etc.) to conquer new territories. By 1290, The Mongols controlled China, Central Asia, Russia and parts of the Middle East and Hungary. In just 50 years, the Mongols had conquered the largest empire the world had ever known and all warfare has stopped

Ancient India is surrounded by both seas and mountains. This geographic isolation protected the people who settled in this region. The water also provided trade routes in the region.

In Ancient Japanese society, what were the roles of the emperor, the shogun and the daimyo?
The Japanese people believed their emperor came from the gods. He had no political power. The shogun, or supreme military dictator, was the real ruler of the country. Daimyo are large landowners who controlled local people through samurai warriors who were loyal to them.

Agriculture, or farming, is the cultivation or production of plants and animals for human use. This development was so important because humans learned how to plant and grow certain crops, they could better control their food supply and were now able to stay in one place for a longer period of time.

A person’s work determined his or her place in the society. The higher social levels had the fewest people.

A person's caste ruled his or her life. It determined things like occupation, who a person could marry, what a person could eat and where a person lived

Why was Admiral Zheng He's voyages so important? (Ancient China)
Zheng led a fleet of 62 large ships and about 30,000 sailors on an expedition to the “Western Oceans” in 1405. The 3-year voyage took Zheng to western India. These voyages helped to spread Chinese goods and trade and also served to increase China’s influence and control of the waters around Asia.
