What are two advantages and two complications with relying on Oral Storytelling?

Advantage: Having audiences means many people can hear a story at once and perhaps pass it along. Books can only be read by one or two people at a time

Advantage: No one has to be specifically taught how to speak and listen in the same way as writing has to be taught

Complication: An audience also means that changes, big or small, can happen to a story over time if they try to tell the story themselves (accidentally)

Complication: People can intentionally adjust details

Advantage: Makes the audience use and develop their imagination

Advantage: Creates a closer connection and relationship to the storyteller and among the audience (they share the storytelling experience)

Complication: The audience has to pay attention the whole time to fully receive and understand the story

Complication: If something happens to the storytellers, the knowledge of a group’s histories, myths, songs, traditions, etc. is lost as well
