A community near a city.

Mountains, hills, valleys, flat land, plains, plateaus.
What does recycle mean?
To reuse something by making it into something that can be used again.
What is a levee?
A long wall made of dirt and concrete built next to a river to prevent flooding.
What is a festival?
A party.
How are suburban and urban communities different?
Urban communities are cities, suburban communities are areas around cities.
What is a natural resource?
Something that is found in nature that people use.
The air, water, land, and other things around us.
Why is Earth Day important?
What type of community are we in, in Aurora?
A suburb.
Why should people in communities help each other?
What covers most of the earth's surface?
Water.
What is the difference between renewable and nonrenewable resources?
Renewable can be replaced.
Nonrenewable cannot be replaced.
What is the point of a dam?
Dams are used to store water that is used for farming, and for cities to use. Dams also use the water to create electricity.
What is the point of a food sharing program?
To provide food for people in need.
Can you name four types of transportation?
Walking, car, train, airplane, light rail, boat.
Name 3 different types of dangerous weather.
Why are many cities located close to water?
People use water for travel and for shipping, so it is convenient for cities to be located near it.
What is a wind farm? What type of resource is wind?
Can you describe 3 kinds of communities?
Urban communities- cities with lots of people and buildings.
Suburban communities- near cities.
Rural communities- places far from cities with lots of open land.

How do people adapt to climate where they live?
Change the way that they build houses, the types of clothes that they wear.
How can people protect the environment?
Not use as much nonrenewable resources. Recycle when possible. To build and use "green buildings."

People noticed a polluted lake (bad), so they were good citizens and helped clean it up (good).
People saw trash on the side of the road (bad), so they took action and stopped to clean it up.
