In sociology, "correlation" means that two variables appear to change together, indicating a relationship between them (Positively or negatively), while "causation" means that one variable directly causes a change in another.

Variables are used in experiments to get data to solve problems.

Hurricanes are strengthening so quickly because of the extremely warm waters of ocean.  These storms explode in just days and have major impact on the cities they hit.  Damage and loss of lives are occurring at an alarming rate each year.
