To figure something out based on what you already know
What is an inference?
This occurs when the main character is struggling against an outside force, such as another character, nature, or the supernatural.
What is external conflict?
The time and place of the story
What is the setting?
This parts comes after the exposition but before the climax. It's most of the middle of the story, tension is building
What is the rising action?
When the narrator talks about him or herself
What is first person?
A story that involves a crime or a puzzling event that is resolved at the end
What is a mystery?
When someone leaves at an important fact because it might lead you to conclude something they don't agree with
What is bias by omission?
The type of fiction that is brief enough to be read in one sitting.
What is a short story?
When a character is in a struggle with a wizard or a dragon for example
What is person vs. the supernatural?
This part of the story ties up loose ends and resolves the central conflict or draws the story to a close.
What is the resolution?
When the narrator sticks close to the perspective of one character and their emotions. "Steve was mad. How dare they make a fool of him!"

The type of punctuation that goes around something somebody else said
