At what time is the sun the highest in the sky?
What is gravity?
The force that holds us on Earth and pulls things down.
What direction does the sun rise and set ?
The sun rises in the East and sets in the West.
What is the name of our solar system?
The Milky Way is our galaxy.
It looks like a small crescent sliver.
How does the sun rise and set in the winter?
It sets early and rises low in the sky
Does the moon have more or less gravity than on Earth and why?
Why do we have day and night?
Which of the planets in our solar system are made up of gas?
The gas giants are Jupiter, Neptune, Uranus, and Saturn.
How does the sun rise and set in the summer?
What would it be like to jump on Jupiter?
It would be hard to jump high because Jupiter is big and has a lot of gravity. You would jump very little.
If the Earth were to spin around its axis twice as fast as it does right now, what would happen?
The day would be half as long and the night would be half as long.
Why are most drawings or depictions of our galaxy wrong?
Most of the drawings of the planets are drawn close together. They are actually very far apart from each other, separated by lots of space and distance. The drawings are not to scale.
Why does the Moon appear to change shape during the month?
The Moon orbits the Earth so the angle of the Sun’s reflection changes
If it is winter at 3pm what is your shadow like?
You would have a long shadow because the sun is lower in the sky and casts a long shadow.
You are on Mars which has 4x less gravity than Earth. If you could jump 24cm on Earth, how high can you jump on Mars?
You can jump 96 cm high on Mars
Which month has the longest days if you live in the Northern Hemisphere and why?
The Earth is tilted toward the Sun in June, it receives more sunlight during the course of a day. The Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year on June 21.
What is the Goldilocks Zone and why is it important?
It is the habitable zone where the temperature in that part of the solar system is warm enough for liquid water to exist on these planets. The amount of heat and light from the star is just right in this zone to support life.
It looks like a half moon in the sky because the other side is not illuminated by the sun.
How can you use the sun to tell the time?
By using a shadow clock, in other words using the suns position in the sky and measuring its shadow.
I would draw several arrows around Earth all pointing in toward Earth.
A bar graph is a chart that plots data using rectangular bars or columns that represent the total amount of observations in the data for that category. For example, you might use it to represent students and their heights.
Name two important factors to consider when figuring out if a planet might have life.
The size of the sun in the galaxy and the distance the planet is from its star.
Why can’t you see all of the constellations during each seasons? Support your answer with reasoning.
We can’t see all the constellations during every season because the Earth is located in an area of space where we cannot see the stars of certain constellations. We would have to look in the direction of the Sun to see them, but the Sun is too bright so we can’t see some of the constellations.
