This is the largest planet in our solar system and is a gas giant. It is characterized by its persistent anticyclonic storm that was first officially observed in 1831 but may have been observed as early as 1665. It has a total of 95 officially recognized moons, 4 of which are named Io, Callisto, Ganymede and Europa. It was actually the first of the Sun's planets to form!

This celestial object is not quite deep space object as it exists within the Milky Way, but it's cool enough to include! Discovered in 1919 by Edward Emerson Barnard, this object obscures roughly 3700 stars from our sight unless we use the Very Large Telescope in Cerro Paranal, Chile.

This gas giant is known for its spectacular rings that are formed mainly of ice particles. This planet is th only planet that we currently know of that is less dense than water! If you had a pool big enough and put this planet in it, it would float! It has 293 confirmed moons, much more than any other planet in our solar system. Its largest moon, Titan, comprises about 90% of the mass in orbit around this planet and its second largest moon, Rhea, may have its own ring system.

This area within our universe, roughly 330 million light-years wide and 700 million light-years away from Earth, is categorized by its emptiness. While an area of its size should hold 2000 galazies, this area only contains at most 60. Scientists think that spaces like this are formed between the filaments that make up our universe.

This rocket, weighing in at 6.2 million pounds fully fueld and measuring in at 363 feet tall, was incredibly powerful. With its 5 F-1 engines it generated 7.6 million pounds of thrust at liftoff! Each first-stage engine required a fuel pump driven by a motor producing roughly 55,000 horsepower, which totaled to 275,000 horsepower just to pump the fuel! Its first flight was an unmanned flight in 1967 and it's finally flight was in 1973 when it helped bring the Sky Lab space station into orbit. Between those two dates it helped launch several missions including Apollo 11! To this day it is one of the most powerful machines we have ever successfully operated.

Many stars eventually expand into a bigger, cooler phase of existence after exhausting most of the hydrogen in its core. When the outward pressure of nuclear fusion disappears, gravity shrinks the core of  star, which simultaniously makes it hotter on the inside. This heat will ignite a shell of hydrogen that surrounds the core, forcing the outer layer to expand rapidly into enourmous sizes.Our star may eventually become on of these, and stay that way for a few hundred million years!

This planet sits closest to the sun, though it is not the hotest planet. Its surface reaches as high as 430 degrees celcius during the day, and -180 degrees celcius at night. It does not have any moons but it IS the fastest orbiting planet! One solar day on this planet is equal to 176 Earth days, while one year is equal to 88 Earth days!

These planetary masses are known for the fact that they do not orbit any star, nor are they part of any solar system. They come to be either through eviction from young star systems as gravitational chaos flings them out, or they can form through the collapsing of gas clouds, similar to how stars are born. Scientists estimate that the number of these masses in the Milky Way is in the billions or trillions, potentially outnumbering stars.

A low to medium mass star eventually ends it's life by shedding it's outer layers and leaving behind one of these hot, very dense remnants. These remnants have a mass similar to our Sun, but this mass is packed incredibly tightly into a space the size of Earth. There is a theoritical limit relating to how big these remnants can get called the Chandrasekhar Limit, which states that they cannot exceed 1.4 solar masses.

This planet is the third brightest object in the sky, after the Sun and the Moon! Spinning slowly in the opposite direction of most planets, this planet is very similar in size and structure to Earth. Its thick atmosphere traps heat in a runaway greenhouse effect, making it the hottest planet in our solar system with surface temperatures hot enough to melt lead, about 467 degrees Celsius! Below the clouds that persist in its atmosphere, this planet as volcanoes and mountains!

These celestial objects are the most magnetic objects in the known universe, with a magnetic field that is a trillion times stronger than that of Earth. They are a rare form of neutron star, formed from the collapsed cores of massive stars after a supernova and power high-energy X-ray and gamma-ray emissions through their decaying magnetic fields. They are so incredibly magnetic that if a human were to get near one it would distort the electron clouds in their atoms, tearing the person apart at a subatomic level.

This ice giant planet is the most distant of our major planets in our solar system and is the only planet we cannot see with the naked eye. It is so far away that high noon, when the sun is at its brightest, would look like a dim twilight to someone on this planet. It was first observed by Galileo in 1612, when it was thought to be a stationary planet, and it was the first planet to be located through the use of mathematical predictions instead of observing the sky 200 years later. It has at least 5 main rings, named Galle, Leverrier, Lassell, Aragho and Adams.

This ice giant was the first planet found with the aid of a telescope in 1781 by William Herschel, though he originally thought it was a star or comet and not a planet.  Rotating at an almost 90 degree angle makes this planet appear to spin sideways, orbiting the Sun like a rolling ball. It has 28 confirmed moons, and two sets of rings named Alpha, Beta, Eta, Gamma, Delta, Lambda, Epsilon, Nu and Mu.

It is known as the coldest place in the known universe, reaching a temperature as low as 1 degree Kelvin or -272.15 degrees Celsius, even colder than the background radiation of deep space. A protoplanetary nebula is a short-lived astronomical object that forms when a dying, intermediate-mass star sheds its outer gas layers. This incredibly rapid expansion is what has caused it to be so cold!

We have found much evidence that there may have been a lot more water on this planet than we once thought, creating the possibility for there to have been life on this planet. Scientists are currently looking for evidence of life having existed when this planet was warmer and wetter, and it is the only planet to which we have successfully sent rovers to. It has 2 moons, Phobos and Deimos.

This giant Soviet rocket was designed to carry humans to the Moon. First launching in 1969, itstood roughly 344 feet tall and used 30 engines on its first stage. All four of its launch attempts ended in failure, though thankfully they were not crewed launches.

A millisecond after the Big Bang, pure energy cooled into the universes first fundamental particles. Bound together in a soup of sorts, these very raw ingredients rapidly condensed into heavier composite particles as the cosmos expanded. Within microseconds, some of them were bonding together and within minutes we had the first atomic nuclei. The cosmos stayed like this until 380,000 years later when it had cooled enough for these nuclei to capture wandering electrons, creating the first ever atoms!

The cause of this error was human error: Lockheed Martin engineering teams that supplied the thruster data to NASA did so in imperial units (pound-seconds) while NASA mission control software used metric units (newton-seconds).

This exoplanet, located 750 light years away in the Draco constellation, is the darkest known planet in the universe. It reflects less than 1% of the starlight that hits it! One reason for this might be that, even though it is a gas giant, it's incredible amounts of heat (980 degrees celsius) prevent reflexive clouds like those on Jupiter from forming. Its atmosphere contains light-absorbing elements like vaporized sodium, potassium, and titanium oxide, though scientists note these do not fully account for its extreme pitch-black nature, and we still do not have answers.

This was the first reusable orbital spacecraft. It is this matter that a rocket expels backward to generate forward thrust through conservation of momentum and Newton's Third Law (every action has an equal and opposite reaction). This British Mars lander launched on June 2 2003 and was part of the European Space Agency's Mars Express mission. Named after Charles Darwin's ship it vanished after attempting to land on Christmas Day. Photos acquired in 2015 from NASA's Mars Reconnaissnce Orbiter showed that the lander DID land, but failed to open its solar panels fully, blocking the radio antenna.
