A process, as defined by Wood, Bruner and Ross, that enables a child to solve a task or achieve a goal that would be beyond his unassisted efforts.
What is scaffolding?
Federal civil rights law that protects students with disabilities against discrimination by requiring programs to provide eligible students reasonable and appropriate accommodations, so they may participate fully in school.
What is Section 504 of The Rehabilitation Act?
All children with disabilities, regardless of the type or severity of their disability, shall receive a free, appropriate public education. This education must be provided at public expense—that is, without cost to the child’s parents.
What is free and appropriate public education (FAPE)?

What is the Individualized Family Service Plan?
An IEP meeting held at least once a year to discuss a student’s IEP including progress toward his or her goals and a review of the appropriateness and effectiveness of the special education services provided to determine the services and goals for the following year.

What is the zone of proximal development?
A way of thinking about teaching and learning that helps give all students an equal opportunity to succeed. This approach offers flexibility in the ways students access material, engage with it and show what they know.
What is Universal Design for Learning (UDL)?
IDEA mandates that students with disabilities be educated with children without disabilities to the maximum extent appropriate and that students with disabilities be removed to separate classes or schools only when the nature or severity of their disabilities is such that they cannot receive an appropriate education in a general education classroom with supplementary aids and services.

Must be completed once every three years, unless the parent and the DOE agree in writing that it is not necessary.
Who is a reevaluation?
Social language skills used in daily interactions.
What is pragmatics?
Tailoring instruction to meet individual needs, including content, process, products, or the learning environment. The use of ongoing assessment and flexible grouping makes this a successful approach to instruction.
What is Differentiated Instruction (DI)?
Schools must provide safeguards to protect the rights of children with disabilities and their parents (includes parental consent and confidentiality)

Reviewed every six months and re-evaluated annually by the team (includes the parent, service coordinator, official designee and evaluator/service providers).
What is the IFSP?
Helps students develop eye and hand control and use information from the senses and attention to improve life skills such as eating, self-care, problem solving, and social skills.
What is occupational therapy?
Adapting, as appropriate, to the needs of an eligible child, the content, methodology, or delivery of instruction to address the unique needs of a child that results from the child's disability; and to ensure access of the child to the general curriculum
