What is the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
School districts are mandated to identify, find and evaluate students who live within their boundaries suspected of having a disability.
What is child find?
Means adapting, as appropriate, the content, methodology or delivery of instruction to address the unique needs that result from the student's disability. This instruction should be designed to ensure the student access to the general education curriculum.
What is specialized designed instruction?
Setting that has general education students and students with IEPs. This classroom has a general education teacher and an ESE teacher pushing in to provide services.
What is support facilitation?
This written notification is provided to legal guardian/parent when scheduling an IEP meeting.

Make a referral for special education?
Means transportation and such developmental, corrective, and other supportive services as are required to assist a child with a disability to benefit from special education.
What is related services?
Classroom that has only students with IEPs in it, along with a special education teacher and a paraprofessional (Teacher Aid/Assistant).
What is a self contained classroom?
The parent, LEA, ESE teacher of the student, general education teacher of the student (if applicable), evaluation interpreter, and at the discretion of the parent or the school district, other individuals who have knowledge or expertise regarding the student.

What is Free and Appropriate Public Education?
This document is provided to the legal guardian/parent to ensure understanding regarding the rights of students with disabilities.
What are procedural safeguards?
Special education and related services that are provided to a student with a disability beyond the normal school year of the public agency.
What is Extended School Year (ESY) services?
Placement that is a school made up of all self contained classrooms, but students go home at the end of the day. Parent need to provide consent for placement at this school.
What is a Separate Day School?
A meeting held at least annually to review, and revise, as appropriate, the plan for a students with a disability.

What are accommodations?
When a student is in a general education classroom, has an IEP and pushes out in various increments each week.

When an IEP team moves a student from regular, resource, and/or separate classroom.

The parent/legal guardian is provided this document whenever it proposes or refuses to initiate or change the identification, evaluation or educational placement of the child or the provision of FAPE to the child.
What is a prior written notice?
At least as often as specified on the IEP, the teachers and service providers must review the student’s progress and inform the student’s parents.
What is IEP goal report?
When a student violates the code of student conduct and the IEP team determines is not a manifestation of the student's disability, this placement needs to be considered for the duration of the disciplinary period.
What is an interim alternative educational setting?
The time frame an IEP must be developed following the initial determination of a student's disability for special education and related services.
