the bopper butterfly is native to indonesia. in 1842 you could find almost the whole rainbow spectrum in the colors of the butter fly (red, orange, green, blue, purple, and the rare yellow). in 1843 a volcano erupted wiping out almost the whole population of bopper buterfies. of the 100 survivors the colors were red, green, blue and purple.

A species forms as it was created in a laboratory by scientists

Give an example of genetic modification.

Species diversity drops because one group lives in a new place

When the europeans came to america they brought honey bees that had yellow and black colloring with them, because of that the native brown honey bees rapidly started becomeing yellow and black.

Gene Flow

adaptive radiation

Several species evolve from one single ancestor

What is natural selection?

the process whereby organisms better adapted to their environment tend to survive and produce more offspring

300

The genetic traits of a whole population change over time.

gentic drift

During an earth quake, a group of groundhogs walking of a fault line are separated. A large valley forms between the two groups, so large they can no longer see the others. The two groups go through different evolutionary paths and become separate animals.

Speciation

The formation of new and distinct species in the course of evolution

What is the name of the procccess we use to get diffrent dog breeds?

What is it called when there is a physicall barrier seperating the species?

The fairy rose axolotls are native to many lakes in brazil. In one specific lake, lake Estrela, climate change has made the water slowly evaporate. Because of the lack of water the axalotls developed stranger gill arches to prevent them from colapsing in air, because of this the axolotls were able to survive on land. They are now considered the rose porka axolotls and cannot mate with the fairy rose axolotls

sympatric speciation

Gene Flow

A genetic trait moves from one population to another

What is Reproductive fitness?

the ability for a species to survive AND reproduce AND their babies survive

Two species form because one relocated apart from another

Peripatric speciation

During the ice age, part of the raccoon population crossed the ice bridge from asia to america. Those who crossed then moved down towards the louisiana area, here it was more warm than they were used to. Those raccoons who had thinner undercoats than the others survived somewhat better than the others. After a while all raccoons in america had thinner coats.

Two species form because of a mutation separating them

In terms of evolution, what is the diffrence between gradual and punctuated equilibrium?

Gradual slowly changes over time, punctuated equilibrium have sudden mutations and major changes with little change in between.
