A customer phones in and says he has gophers eating his barley. He states there is approximately 12 acres of damage, but it is scattered around the field and not in 5-acre blocks. Is he still eligible for compensation?
Yes. There is a separate program available for gopher damage on small acre blocks as long as the damage is greater than 1 acre. (but this is not a part of the wildlife program, therefore it may affect his premiums) This option pays $50 per acre regardless of crop seeded (minus a 1 acre deductible per LLD) and those acres are not eligible for any further insurance in that growing year.
*If the customer is uninsured, only wildlife funds are available, register a BGES only.
An organic producer phones in on June 15th and states that he is having issues with his barley crop, there are excessive weeds and he would like to plow it down and reseed. Is he eligible for any benefits?
Yes. The crop must be insured under the organic crop program and certified organic or in transition to organic production.
Crop must then be destroyed and reseeded by July 15th to qualify for the Organic Reseeding Benefit (ORB)

Yes, it is the customer's option to reseed or not, but they cannot take the benefit and also carry the crop to harvest
Can a producer update their stored grain amounts if they found a bin they forgot to tell us about previously?
Yes. Customers can update their stored grain as it changes, but no later than August 15th or prior to harvest starting in their area.
A customer phones in on July 1st, stating that he has 25 acres that are too wet to seed on one of his fields, and another 16 acres on another. Is he still eligible for a USA claim?
Yes. However, any claims registered after June 25th up to July 2nd, will be subject to a 25% penalty up to a maximum of $1000.
Customer has an establishment claim on canola on June 3rd, the crop was in the choice range, and he has chosen to reseed. He wants to reseed to oats, however it is not on his contract as an endorsed crop. He has 240 acres of oats already seeded at a different location. Can he still receive coverage for it?
Yes, but only the reseeded acres are eligible for coverage. He can endorse them at 50-80% but must keep those acres separate from his other oats, as those acres are not insured. Final seeding dates must still be followed for reseeding.
What is the minimum affected acre requirement for a producer to qualify for the Organic Reseeding Benefit (ORB)?
10 acres or 10% of the insurable crop

A producer asks why we care about his old grain, he tells you that he has just been estimating it for years because he never has claims. He declared 500 bushels of carryover but upon your inspection you found a bin of 1500 bushels. What happens to the extra 1000 bushels now?
It is considered new production unless the producer can prove it's old. Dust, grade, dockage, visual differences etc.
Customer has a low-lying area of approximately 24 acres on a 130 acre field, that is known to flood in wet years. It was not seeded last year and has not been tilled. He is requesting a USA claim, is he eligible?
No, the acres must be in condition to seed to be eligible for a USA claim.
Customer endorses flax at 80%, he seeds on May 25th with a spreader and fertilizes with 130lbs of a blend of Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium. He pre-tilled and sprayed the crop with a registered chemical to control weeds. The crop has failed to establish on June 15th and he calls in for an establishment claim. Is he eligible?
No. We do not cover when small seeded crops are broadcast, as the cause of loss is method of seeding.
A customer seeds his regular wheat in the fall for an early germinated spring crop. It germinates come spring and the producer calls in with some establishment concerns. Is this covered?
Yes. We will accept yield loss liability on fall seeded annual crops if it is established when spring crops have emerged in the area, if it suffers subsequent spring losses, and establishment benefit may be paid.
If the crop germinated in the fall however and was killed due to frost before seeding began in the area, no benefit will be paid.
A customer has an establishment claim on oats, the adjuster finds that the plant counts fall under the choice range. He destroys the crop in preparation to reseed, however excess moisture prevents him from reseeding to another crop. Is he eligible for any further coverage?
Yes, he is eligible for a USA claim on the acres he cannot reseed due to excessive moisture
Can a customer have the area percentile penalty applied if they are not on the Farm Practice list?
Yes. If uninsurable causes of loss, management related concerns, or unknown causes of loss are found, any customer may be compared to area.
