Dishwasher?
What do you do?
What's wrong?
The rule is:
Where does it go?
100

Can this go in the dishwasher? Why/Why not?

Too small, goes through plastic holder where silverware goes, and blocks bottom spinner.

100

You have a spoon covered in mayonnaise from a sandwich you made.  The sink looks like this. What do you do?

Rinse of mayonnaise and put it in the white silverware holder! Avoid the temptation of just dumping it in the bowl with the water.

100

What's wrong with this picture?  What should have been done differently?

Bowl left on counter with food residue, and stacked on another person's bowl.  Bowl should have been rinsed until no food residue left, then placed in dishwasher.  IF dishwasher is full and/or clean, bowl should have been washed and placed on drying pad.

100

What's the rule here? (This tool was used for a dinner, pretend there was still some pico in here)

Person putting leftovers away takes food out and either rinses it out or soaks it.  Person whose dishes night it is washes it.  Better to double up the rinsing/soaking than to let food dry on stuff.

100

Where does it go?

Top drawer to the left of the fridge.

Does this go in the dishwasher? Why or why or why not?

This spinner does NOT go in the dishwasher.  Some of the metals are not dishwasher safe and then you get metal rub off and then if food touches it, the metal that now rubs off gets in the food.

200

You are making lunch/breakfast/snack/cocoa/mug cake etc. for yourself.  You use a pot, a cooking utensil, a pan, plate/mug and an eating utensil.  When you are done eating, please describe what is done with each item?

Pot-washed and left to dry

Pan- washed and left to dry

Plate/mug- in dishwasher if empty and washed and left to dry if full

Cooking utensil- WASH AND LEAVE TO DRY (for some reason people have been believing cooking utensils are exempt from this rule, they are not)

Eating utensil- may be placed in the utensil holder or washed

200

What's wrong here? What should have been done differently?  (Must have both correct for points)

Someone's plate was left on counter with food on it.  It should have had food scraped off and all residue rinsed off then placed in dishwasher.  IF dishwasher was full and clean, it should have been washed and placed on drying rack.

(Must have at least 2 of the correct elements for points)

200

There is some food on your plate or pot.  Which side of the sink does it go in and why?

Rinse food off on the right side of the sink.  This is where the garbage disposal is.  FOOD in the left sink is a PROBLEM.  Even though there is a strainer, food can still get down that drain and clog stuff up. Please keep food on right side.

200

Where do glass measuring cups go?

Two cupboards over from stove, the one with the GLASS door, second shelf up.
300

Does this go in the dishwasher? Why or why not?

No.  Too tall and will block the spinners.  Also, because of the joints in the metal and types of metal it can rust, or get water trapped inside.

300

It is your scheduled time to do dishes.  There are several cooking utensils in the white eating utensil holder and in the bottom of the sink. What do you do?

Wash them.

300

What's wrong?  What needs to be done?

Food dried on, needed to have been rinsed out.  If it this was for a personal meal, washed and left on drying rack.  If a dinner, rinsed out or soaked so not food dries on.

300

What is the rule about the counters and the front of the appliances?

When you do the dishes, clean the counters and wipe the appliances (especially the touch spots).

300

Where does it go?

Top drawer to the left of the fridge (NOT where the spatulas and wooden tools go)

400

Do these go in the dishwasher?

Nope- the paint starts to come off and gets on other stuff.  The person who drank the coffee should hand wash it.  The lids can go through though!

400

You drank coffee or hot chocolate in a vessel that doesn't go in the dishwasher.  What do you do when you're finished?

Hand wash the drinking container (don't leave on end table, dining room table, mantle, upstairs, counters or island) and leave it to dry on rack.

400

What's wrong? What should be done?

Rice got left in bowl and dried.  All rice and rice residue must be rinsed away or soaked bc it is especially hard to wash clean after it has dried.

400

What is the rule about the dishcloth we wash with?

Rinse, squeeze, drape.  Don't leave it bunched up in the bottom of the holder to get stinky!

400

Where does it go?

2nd drawer down to the left of the fridge

500

Do mugs go in the dishwasher?

It depends on the mug!! Read the bottom, if it says "dishwasher safe" go ahead and put it in there.  If it does not say "dishwasher safe" then it should be hand washed.  (That keeps it looking nice and keeps possible bad stuff out of our fluids we put in there).

500

What are 2 things you should do before you turn the dishwasher on?  This does not include, filling it, putting in soap, or turning it on...

Run the garbage disposal, make sure the spinners can spin, make sure nothing is in the bottom of the dishwasher (like a plastic lid, broken glass, big chunks of food)

500

What's wrong here? What needed to happen instead?

Food left in bowl, plates left on table for days.  Find the moment to clean the food off your plate and get it in the dishwasher.

500

What is the rule about the peninsula?

Avoid leaving your belongings, mail, plates, mugs, mason jars, wrappers, or really anything on it, unless you are sitting there using it or going to come back to it same day (or maybe first thing in the morning) to continue work (doesn't count for food/dishes/ lunch boxes, just like laptops and work).

500

Where do small glass bowls like this go?  (Not the bigger tupperware or cooking kind, more the small ones for sauce or fruit)

2nd cabinet over from the stove, to the left, the one with the glass cabinet, bottom shelf
600

Do these tools go in the dishwasher?

NOT IN THE SILVERWARE HOLDER!!! They are too tall and block the spinners from washing.  Watch out for these tricky things.  The knife can go in lying down in the upper drawer.  This whisk probably shouldn't go in at all because it will rust.

600

You see the kitchen sink like this.  Dinner has been cooked, you've eaten and the dishwasher is full.  What do you do with the plate/bowl you ate on? What do you do with your fork/spoon?

You wash your plate/bowl and leave it to dry.  You can either wash your utensil, or place it in the white utensil holder.

600

What's wrong here and what should have been done differently?

Although everything has been rinsed, or is soaking in water, it was left in the sink.  It should have all been put in the dishwasher, or hand washed if the dishwasher was full.

600

What is the rule about putting food covered dishes in the dishwasher?

Try to avoid if it is dried on.  Our dishwasher has lost steam after everything we have put it through.  If you or somebody else did not rinse off their dishes (which should no longer be a problem now that we played this game) and the food is dried on.  The dishwasher will not get it clean.  Letting it go through the dishwasher again and again does not get it clean, until it gets taken out and scrubbed off.  Don't make someone else do that work for you.

600

Where does it go?

Metal cookie spatulas go in the top drawer of the peninsula (new cabinets).

700

Does this go in the dishwasher? Why or why not?

It can, ONLY IF it is placed with the BIG part down.  Otherwise, the small part goes through the bottom of the silverware holder and blocks the blade.

700

You use the spray oil on a pan, the george foreman, or the pancake skillet, what do you do next, or when you are finished cooking?

LOOK CAREFULLY! The spray should be sprayed lightly, and directly targeted to the pan.  Things have been found COATED in the spray that happened to be nearish (remote control, the knives holder, fruit bowl, paperwork, the whole cooktop).  Carefully clean up all the leftover grease.

700

Find at least 5 things wrong in this picture

Tupperware not rinsed and stacked if a must for the dishwasher

Personal plates/bowls not washed and drying on rack

Silverware not rinsed and placed in holder in sink

Things used and put in sink not rinsed off-food dried on

Items used for personal food not washed

700

What is the rule about food being left out that goes back into the fridge in the garage, pantry, lazy susan, spices drawers or inside fridge?

The chef and sous chef should return all cooking ingredients to their original locations after cooking.  The leftovers person is responsible only for 1) putting food away, 2)Completely rinsing/soaking cooking pots/pans 3) Putting away food needed for people to use while serving (e.g., ketchup).

700

When this cabinet is full of large mason jars, where do the extras go?

Cabinet to the left of the cooktop, top shelf.
