This fraction represents the ninth (9th) grade achievement gap between lower & higher income youth which can be explained by unequal access to summer learning.
What is two-thirds (2/3)?
There are currently seven (7) of these types of styles attributed to individuals. Library staff work hard to develop their programs, including summer reading, to make them appealing & accessible to all styles. The styles include Visual, Aural, Verbal, Physical, Logical, Social, & Solitary.
What are learning styles?
By letting kids choose what activities they would like to do versus forced reading, whether they like it or not, we are encouraging them to read & learn through enjoyment. This is to support the critical need of creating these types of reading & learning experiences for kids in order for them to grow into lifelong readers & learners.

Children can lose up to this many months of grade level equivalency in reading skills & other school subjects during the time they are not in school.
What is three (3) months?
Children have the choice of reading or doing activities to complete the Summer Reading Challenge. The purpose of offering a choice is the library's response to the research behind the necessity of providing a collaborative approach to learning & health called this.
What is the Whole Child Approach?
In an effort to transition from a focus on narrowly defined academic achievement to one that promotes the long-term development & success of all children, research demonstrates, that as we educate our children, we cannot simply focus on academics alone. Instead, the focus needs to be a collaboration of academics & this because each can distinctly affect the other either favorably or adversely.

What is a library card?
