Explain the Reconstruction amendments… 13th,  14th, and 15th Amendments

13th Amendment passed by Congress under Abraham Lincoln. Made slavery illegal in the United States. Helped former slaves gain freedoms after Civil War.

14th Amendment- granted citizenship to former slaves. Allowed them the freedoms and liberties that white males had. Also gave African Americans equal protection under the law. This meant that people could not be treated unfairly or differently based on their race.

15th Amendment - Suffrage for African American men. gave African American males the right to vote. However, women and Native Americans did not receive the same right.
