What does it mean to reduce, reuse, and recycle?
Reduce- to use less of something
Reuse- to use over and over again
Recycle-to make into something new again
What does the sun appear to do each day?
Move across the sky
What do all animals need to survive?
Food, water, shelter
What is a food web?
Consists of all the food chains in a single ecosystem, interlocking with each other
Give an example of a physical change you can reverse.
Freezing a liquid and turning it into a solid
How does using less water help conserve resources?
Lowers energy demands, saves water for when we need it for important situations
How do shadows change throughout the day?
Based on where the sun is in the sky
How does camouflage help animals survive?
Camouflage helps an animal to blend in to its surroundings.
How do producers, consumers, and decomposers interact?
Consumers interact with producers by eating them as well as other consumers in order to gain this energy. Decomposers break down dead and decaying producers and consumers in order to absorb their nutrients and gain energy as well.
What does it mean to conserve resources?
To protect
Why is it important to protect forests?
They are the home to many organisms, and help provide for our environment (oxygen)
What pattern do we see in the moon’s appearance? And how?
The moon phases
How does an animal’s environment affect its survival?
The environment will determine the ability to adjust or adapt to new circumstances
What are some things that could happen when one part of a food web is removed?
In a food web, how is it shown who is gaining the energy that is being passed along?
How can you help conserve energy at home or school?
Turn the water off when you are not using it. Turn lights off when you don't need them to be on. Have a reusable water bottle.
How does Earth’s rotation affect what we see in the sky?
Due to spinning, rotation, we see different stars at different times due to what direction we are facing.
What might happen if a plant doesn’t get enough sunlight?
It will not produce the food that it needs in order to live
How do plants and animals depend on each other?
In every environment plants and animals depend on each other for food, water, shelter.
Explain how balanced and unbalanced forces affect motion, using an example.
Balanced forces cause no motion to happen, while unbalanced forces cause motion to happen. Like a game of tug of war. If both people are pulling with the same force, the rope wont move. If one person is pulling harder than the other then the rope will move towards them due to a greater force.
Explain how human actions can both harm and help the environment.
Harmful- we cause deforestation, fires
Helpful- we help to protect endangered animals/plants
Explain how the position of Earth, the moon, and the sun causes the phases of the moon.
It will cause varying differences in the reflection of light from the sun that can bounce off of the moon, creating the different phases that we see
Predict what would happen to a desert ecosystem if a new predator was introduced.
More animals would die out faster, since there are now more organisms hunting them.
In a food web diagram, what do the arrows represent?
The flow of energy.
Explain how Earth’s rotation and orbit affect the seasons.
The closer we are to the sun, the hotter the weather is which for us means spring and summer. The farther away from the sun we are the colder the weather which for us means fall and winter.
