The literal definition of a word.
What is Denotation?
These aspects of a question stem will help you to get the question correctly. If you do not analyze them, and understand them, the chances of you getting the question correct becomes slim.
What are keywords?
This response type will be extended, with a maximum of 2300 characters excluding spaces, in which you demonstrate that you can create an original piece of writing that has structure, a logical flow, proper grammar and punctuation usage, and evidence to support your thesis or claim.
What is Extended Constructed Response?
You need to hurry up and get ready, because you woke up late and are about to miss the bus.
What is "remove the comma before because?"
This part of the test is very important and should always be read as the exam is testing your ability to read and comprehend.
What is EVERY PART?
The author's attitude.
What is Tone?
This information usually comes before the title of the story. It should not be skipped as it typically provides context for the excerpt you are assigned to read.
What is background information?
This response type should be brief, exceeding no more than 475 characters excluding spaces, in which you answer the question by restating the question in your answer, and provide evidence to support your answer.

What is Conjunctions - (,FANBOYS)
Your ECR prompt asks you to write a letter/correspondence. You're maintaining the same structure as you would any other ECR with the addition of these two things.
What is a greeting and a sign off?
An idea, or feeling, that a word invokes, implies, or suggests.
What is Connotation?
Whenever in doubt about a word that I've read in a passage, or a question, I should perform this action.
What is "look it up?"
This is the most important part of your ECR. Without it, you will receive a score of 0. It is created by explicitly answering the prompt meaning restating what the prompt is asking you into your answer.
What is a thesis statement?
I teached my brother who is four years old how to ride a bike last year.
What is change "teached" to "taught" and add a comma after "brother" and "old"?
This genre of ECR requires you to "explain"
What is expository?
This concept encompasses the means of persuasion: ethos, pathos, and logos.
What are Rhetorical Appeals?
If you are provided an isolated line, or quote from a story, in addition to the paragraph that the quote or line comes from, what should you do?
What is Go back and read the quote within the context of the paragraph before selecting an answer.
What is paragraph?
When you approach the revising and editing, ESPECIALLY REVISING, portion of the STAAR test, you should do this for the purposes of having context prior to choosing an answer.
What is Read the Passage.
This genre of ECR requires you to argue.
What is argumentative?
These are sets of personality quirks, morals, values, and behaviors found in specific characters across multiple stories. They are universal and help to establish a character's role within a story.
What are archetypes?
Whenever I start reading a new passage, I should identify this integral aspect of the passage as it reveals how I approach analyzing and answering the questions.
What are genres?
You will be asked to write one of these TWO types of ECR's on your exam.
