What is Line?

What is a still life?
The amount of life or dark in a color
What is value?
A drawing technique that shows the different values of an object.
What is shading?

The space that an object occupies.
What is positive space?
Objects closer to the viewer, ________ objects that are behind them.
What is overlap?
The area that receives little or no light
What is a shadow?
A shading technique that involves drawing parallel lines
What is hatching?
Reflected light that is organized into 3 categories; primary, secondary, and intermediate.
What is color?
The center of interest in a work of art, the most important element, where the view focuses.
What is emphasis?
Objects that are closer to the viewer are lower on the paper.
What is hierarchy?
The direction your light is coming from
What is light source?
A shading technique of gently intermingling two or more colors or values to create a gradual transition or to soften lines.
What is blending?
Refers to a feeling of depth or three dimensions. It can refer to the artist's use of the area within a picture.
What is space?
The space around an object.
What is Negative Space?
The relative size and scale of the various elements in a design. The issue is the relationship between objects, or parts, of a whole.
What is proportion?
The shadow on the surface where light is blocked.
What is cast shadow?
A shading technique that involves drawing lines that cross each other at angles
What is cross-hatching?
Defines objects in space and exists in 3 dimensions with height, width, and depth.
What is form?
The placement or arrangement of visual elements or 'ingredients' in a work of art, as distinct from the subject.
What is composition?
An artistic technique in which the artist sketches the outline of the subject
What is contour?
A system of organizing the amount of light or dark in a color. It consists of ten sections ranging from white to black, with several shades of gray in between.
What is a value scale?
A shading technique that involves drawing with dots in black and white or color
