Who was the first chancellor or director of the school
The first "director" of Missouri S&T, then the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy (MSM), was Dr. Charles Penrose Williams, appointed in August 1871. He held the position of director, not chancellor, as the "Chancellor" title was not used for the institution's chief administrator until later. The role of chancellor was established with Merl Baker in 1964.
