What kind of change occur when rocks split? Physical or Chemical?
Both. When rocks split the smaller pieces of newly exposed rock still have the same properties as the original sample. Nothing change about it but the size. This change is physical. However, solid calcium carbonate does not easily dissolve in water. When the water is slightly acidic it becomes calcium hydrogen carbonate because the calcium carbonate reacts. Therefore the change is also chemical.

The clay will heat up in the first few seconds. As you look back on it little pieces of clay will begin to float to the top. Is this change physical of chemical? Well the clay only changed its size it did not change into a new substance. The clay changed its state of matter. Therefore, this is a physical change.
