What is a metaphor?
This type of figurative language compares two different things and says there’s something(s) similar about these two things, without using "like" or "as".
What is a "comfort object"?
In "The Giver", this means a stuffed animal toy (a stuffy) that is given to newborns and then taken away when they become "Eights".

冲突点 / this is general category for what the protagonist has and the antagonist creates in the plot, and an example of this is character vs. destiny

What Jonas first sees change from black and white to its true color (red).

Identity in comparison, birth identity, and choice identity combine to make this.

This is the repetition of the same consonant sound (not spelling!) at the beginning of two or more words.

In "The Giver", this means that everything is controlled in order to be the same or very similar.

This is a word used only in "The Giver" that means euthanasia or "a mercy killing" (such as when someone has a terminal illness and is in too much pain, so they receive a doctor-assisted suicide).

阐述 / the part of the plot diagram that introduces the theme, setting, characters, mood, and “normal”, everyday life circumstances for this story’s world and is usually at the beginning of the story.

These are words and phrases used in real life and in "The Giver" when the actual words for something are considered impolite, harsh, or embarrassing.
What is denouement?
结局 / the part of the plot diagram where the new “normal life” is shown, which contrasts with the exposition’s “normal life” that started the story

This is when the character is analyzed for the reason for existing.
