Explain how vaping affects your body, specifically the lungs and the brain.

  1. The e-liquid in the vape is heated into an aerosol.
  2. The aerosol is inhaled into the lungs and gets absorbed into the bloodstream (nicotine and other toxic substances can lead to inflammation and irritation in the lungs)
  3. Once in the bloodstream these particles also travel to the brain (the nicotine affects the brain’s reward system by increasing the release of dopamine)
  4. Over time vaping can affect memory, attention, mood, and increase the risk of lung damage, nicotine addiction, and brain development for teenagers.

These three are connected because as a person builds tolerance, they need to take more of the drug, increasing the risk of addiction. 

If a person tries to quit, withdrawal symptoms can make it hard to stop. These withdrawal symptoms often push a person to use the drug again, making it even harder to quit.
