What did the Montgomery Bus Boycott finally accomplish?

The boycott lasted more than a year until the bus companies finally gave up their segregation policy, which led to the Supreme Court ruling on December of 1956 that bus segregation was against the law. This was one of the factors which led to the complete ending of segregation in the South soon after.
