What is Race
Sameness.Treating everyone exactly the same regardless of their differences or situations.
What is Equality
learned prejudgement about members of social groups to which we don’t belong based on limited knowledge/experience resulting in simplistic judgements/assumptions projected onto people from that group
What is prejudice
A right or advantage that is given to some people and not others.
What is Privilege
a widely held but fixed & oversimplified image/idea of a particular type of person or thing.
What are stereotypes
multidimensional imbalance of social, political, & institutional power that spans history & is taken for granted by most people in society, particularly those benefiting from it.
What is oppression
The everyday verbal, nonverbal, and environmental slights, snubs, or insults, whether intentional or unintentional, which communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative messages to target persons based solely upon their marginalized group membership.
What is Microaggression
About power and includes prejudice and discrimination. While we can all be prejudiced and discriminated against, because of unequal power, people of color can not benefit from systemic (BLANK)
What is racism
attitudes/stereotypes that affect our understanding, actions & decisions in an unconscious manner
What is Implicit Bias
The component of each and every one of ourselves that expects assimilation to the dominant racial culture.
What is Whiteness
Differential treatment based on skin color, typically expressed as favoritism towards those of lighter complexions; rejection/mistreatment of those with darker complexions.
What is colorism
unearned advantages based solely on skin color with light, fair, passing for white as the determining factor. Being given the benefit of the doubt without question.
What is white privilege
Fairness. Justice. People getting what they need and deserve in order to reach their full potential.
What is Equity
action based on prejudice toward social others
