No, some of the Saints where confused and upset that the expedition "failed" while others found a sense of redemption in their journey.
What is the story of John Tanner?
John was initially not a member of the church. He was given the news that he was going to lose his leg due to an illness and began traveling refusing to amputate. While traveling he saw a flyer from missionaries and attended a church meeting intending to prove their teachings wrong but found his heart softened and he asked them for further lessons. Eventually he was healed due to his faith and able to be baptized.
