Why was this hodge podge course put together and how do teachers feel about it?
There is a big political contingent in Florida that is pushing for more civics education. They instituted a 7th grade, end-of-course exam on civics. As a result, the course at 7th grade had to change to a civics focus. Previously, geography had been the focus at MS, and the geography people didn't want to give that up. So, we have a mix of civics, geography, and economics now.
400
Why is TCI off-list? How does this impact our ability to adopt?
TCI is providing materials off-list because the state provides districts with great flexibility to purchase programs that are best for their district and student population. 50% of adoption funds can be spent on off-list programs and 100% of funds for K and 75% for 1 can be spent off-list. Florida laws are becoming more and more flexible to encourage digital and off-list programs.

How will this program help students prepare for the state-wide, 7th grade, civics end-of-course exam?
We have a two-pronged approach--creating memorable content and giving all students the skills to access and synthesize the data for the test. 70% of the test will be interpreting primary and secondary sources, so both skills and content will be important. Our professional development plan provides specific training on the test once it is fully developed. We'll also work with teachers to create a bank of practice questions that can be used throughout the year.

Where do I find the correlations?
TCI provides a full correlation for all of our programs on our web site. However, the most useful way to track standards is by seeing them at point of use. TCI is building into their subscriptions the ability to see the standards covered in each lesson. This will be a tab in the Lesson Resources for the teacher and there will also be a tab for students in the Student Subscription.
